The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) is a healthcare programme run by India's Ministry of Health and Family Welfare. It provides medical care to central government employees, pensioners, Members of Parliament, judges, freedom fighters, and their dependents.

## How CGHS Works

- **Eligibility**: Serving and retired central government employees, Members of Parliament, judges, freedom fighters, PIB-accredited journalists, and dependents
- **CGHS Card**: Beneficiaries need a valid CGHS card (plastic or e-card) for cashless treatment
- **Referral**: Planned treatments require a referral from the designated CGHS wellness centre. Emergency cases can visit any empanelled facility without referral
- **Cashless Treatment**: Available at CGHS-approved rates. NABH-accredited facilities may offer higher package rates
