The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) empanels eye centres across India to provide healthcare to central government employees, pensioners, and their dependents. There are currently 546 CGHS empanelled eye centres across 63 cities. CGHS beneficiaries can visit any of these empanelled facilities for cashless or reimbursement-based treatment. CGHS empanelled eye centres provide specialised ophthalmic care including cataract surgery, glaucoma treatment, retina procedures, LASIK, corneal transplants, and routine eye examinations. These centres handle both outpatient consultations and day-care surgical procedures.
Eye centres may hold NABH or NABL accreditation. NABL (National Accreditation Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories) certification is particularly relevant for diagnostic and testing facilities, ensuring reliable and accurate test results.
Beneficiaries typically need a referral from their CGHS wellness centre for planned eye procedures. However, emergency eye conditions can be treated at any empanelled eye centre without prior referral.
