How CGHS rates work

Three factors determine what a CGHS beneficiary pays for any procedure.

City tier

Metro cities pay the full rate. Smaller cities pay less.

Tier X — MetroBase rate
Tier Y — City−10%
Tier Z — District−20%

Accreditation

NABH is the reference rate. Non-NABH is paid less, super-speciality more.

For procedures needing admission. Consultations, tests and day-care are the same in every ward.

Frequently asked questions

No. CGHS package rates are fixed by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare and are binding on every empanelled hospital. For a referred beneficiary, an empanelled hospital must accept the CGHS rate as full and final payment and cannot bill you extra for a covered procedure.

Rarely. The rates on this page reflect the CGHS notification dated 3 October 2025 (effective 13 October 2025). CGHS revises rates only periodically, so these remain the current rates until the directorate issues a new notification.

Every rate is built from three factors: city tier (X metro base / Y city −10% / Z district −20%), hospital accreditation (NABH is the reference; Non-NABH is 15% less, super-speciality 15% more), and — for procedures needing admission — ward entitlement (general −5% / semi-private base / private +5%). Consultations, investigations and day-care procedures are the same in every ward.

The procedure rate is national, but the amount depends on your city's tier. Metro cities (Tier X) like Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai and Bengaluru pay the full base rate; Tier Y cities pay about 10% less and Tier Z about 20% less. So the CGHS rate list for Delhi and for Kolkata are the same Tier X rates shown here.

The all-inclusive price CGHS pays for a procedure: surgeon's fee, operation theatre, anaesthesia, routine investigations, medicines, implants where specified, and the standard hospital stay. The beneficiary pays nothing extra for what the package covers.

About the CGHS rate list

The CGHS rate list is the official price list set by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare for cashless medical treatment under the Central Government Health Scheme. This page covers all 2,584 procedure rates — including consultation fees, investigation charges, surgery package rates, and ICU per-day costs — across 80 Indian cities. Rates are revised periodically by the CGHS directorate; the current rates were last revised on 13 October 2025.
