About CGHS Hospitals
The Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS) empanels hospitals across India to provide healthcare to central government employees, pensioners, and their dependents. There are currently 1,590 CGHS empanelled hospitals across 75 cities. CGHS beneficiaries can visit any of these empanelled facilities for cashless or reimbursement-based treatment. CGHS empanelled hospitals provide inpatient (IPD) and outpatient (OPD) services at government-approved rates. Services typically include general medicine, surgery, obstetrics, paediatrics, orthopaedics, cardiology, and other specialised treatments. Both private and government hospitals are part of the empanelled network.
Many empanelled hospitals hold NABH (National Accreditation Board for Hospitals) accreditation, which indicates adherence to quality and patient safety standards set by the Quality Council of India. NABH-accredited hospitals may offer higher CGHS package rates compared to non-accredited facilities.
For planned treatments, beneficiaries need a valid CGHS card and a referral from their designated wellness centre. Emergency admissions do not require prior referral — beneficiaries can visit any empanelled hospital directly.
