I don’t understand the meaning of "ICU" in this hospital. My father had undergone a transplant and developed serious complications afterward. In a moment of critical urgency, we called for medical help—but shockingly, not a single doctor was available at the time. There was only one nurse in the ICU, and even she appeared to lack the knowledge or experience to manage such a serious situation. No doctors were present. One finally arrived after 10 to 15 minutes, but by then, my father had already taken his last breath. To make matters worse, doctor PANKAJ walked in calmly and without any urgency—as if it were just a routine visit. Is this what an ICU is supposed to be? A place where lives hang in the balance, yet no proper emergency response exists? And what makes this even more disturbing is that, just a few days later, when we visited the hospital for billing formalities, we saw three to four doctors present in the ICU. This clearly indicates that they were aware of their failure that day—and had since increased the medical presence to avoid questions or accountability. We put our full trust in this hospital. But when it mattered most, they failed—not just in treatment, but in basic humanity and responsibility.

My father recently underwent a liver transplant surgery at a government hospital. I wish to bring to light the gross medical negligence, lack of supervision, and systemic failure that led to his untimely death. I have never been in favor of government hospitals or the doctors working there, based on my personal experience in 2009, when I witnessed the same lack of responsibility and poor standards of care. Unfortunately, history repeated itself. The conditions remain deplorable, with inadequate facilities, unqualified staff, and a shocking absence of post-operative medical attention. A liver transplant is a critical and high-risk surgery that requires continuous monitoring by experienced doctors both before and after the procedure. However, after my father’s surgery, no doctor was present in the ICU. Not a single doctor visited to check on him. Only one nurse was present—an inexperienced staff member clearly unequipped to handle post-transplant emergencies. When my father experienced nasopharyngeal regurgitation, an emergency that required immediate medical intervention, no doctor was available. Dr. Pankaj, who was “on call” at that time, arrived 15 minutes late, walking into the ICU casually, despite the emergency situation. This delay in response proved fatal. Later, when we met Dr. Pranjal, we were told that Dr. Pankaj was on call and that the hospital did not have enough doctors available. This explanation is completely unacceptable. A patient in the ICU fighting for his life must be prioritized over everything else. An ‘on call’ duty cannot justify negligence during a medical emergency. My father lost his life due to this sheer negligence and lack of responsibility from the hospital’s staff and management. If the hospital does not have sufficient qualified doctors and proper post-transplant facilities, it has no right to perform such critical surgeries. Conducting transplants under such poor supervision is nothing less than playing with human lives. I demand a thorough investigation into this matter and strict action against those responsible. No other family should have to go through this unbearable pain because of institutional carelessness and indifference. Until the hospital administration and health authorities ensure proper facilities, trained medical personnel, and accountability, I strongly advise others to avoid undergoing liver or any organ transplant in this hospital. A life was lost—not because of illness, but because of negligence.

I am heartbroken and outraged at the experience my family had at IKD Hospital, Ahmedabad. My father had a successful liver transplant at this hospital, but shortly afterward, due to water entering his lungs, he suffered a severe complication. Shockingly, during this critical time in the ICU, no doctors were present—only nurses were attending to him. It took 10–15 minutes for Dr. Pankaj to arrive, and even then, he appeared casual and did not seem to treat the urgency the situation demanded. Despite my father’s recent life-saving surgery, he was lost within minutes, and we were given excuses about doctors being “on call.” This is unacceptable for any ICU. Critical care units require doctors to be immediately available at all times. Lack of proper supervision and team management led to the preventable death of my father. If IKD Hospital cannot provide adequate doctor coverage in critical care, they have no right to put patients’ lives at risk. I urge anyone considering this hospital to think twice and demand accountability.
