My mother recently underwent cataract surgeries for both eyes under the same MRN/case and treatment plan at HV Desai Eye Hospital. The package shared with us was ₹38,000. The first surgery (Imported Monofocal Lens – Clarion) was performed at this agreed package price of ₹38,000. However, for the second surgery — same patient, same MRN, same lens — we were charged ₹45,600. We were informed just before the surgery that the earlier discounted rate applicable for medical insurance was no longer available. This was surprising, as it was part of the same treatment plan and the first operation had been performed just a few days earlier. What was more concerning is that we were told the package price is ₹38,000 if paid via cash/self-payment, but it increases to ₹45,600 if opting for insurance (cashless). The insurance company approved only ₹28,800, and due to this higher package pricing, we had to pay an additional ₹7,600 out of pocket. It is difficult to understand why the cost of the same lens and procedure changes based solely on the mode of payment. Such pricing differences ultimately create a financial burden for patients. Given that HV Desai Eye Hospital is known as a charitable, non-profit institution, we expected greater transparency and consistency in billing practices. I have sent emails regarding this matter but have not received any response despite multiple follow-ups. While the surgical outcome was satisfactory and we appreciate the medical care provided, we hope the hospital reviews its pricing policies (particularly for patients opting for medical insurance) to ensure fairness and clarity for patients in the future.

Good experience with cataract surgery so far. Service is good at a cost and Hospital looks clean. Hospital should provide full report and a file for future records. That would be a major improvement and help patients consult other doctors at different locations in future. Cashless hospitalization isn't really cashless and depends on the initial approval by insurance TPA. However a refund of the deposits (if any) can be processed much faster post discharge. Over a week waiting time is too much.
