998 on Googleyou know how hospitals feel like a depressing place? well this one doesn't this hospital is it's own ecosystem the place is clean, hygienic and has an over peacefulness to it. i lost my dad here, but they took good care of him in his final times, even though they lack in some places, but which place doesn't?
I am sharing this review purely based on my personal experience. I am not associated with the hospital’s PR team, nor am I a paid or fake reviewer. Please read carefully. 1. Misleading claims about affordability: The hospital advertises itself as offering “reasonable charges” and being affordable for all sections of society. In reality, this is misleading. It operates like any other private hospital, and the testimonials promoting affordability appear unreliable. 2. Very high diagnostic charges: Charges for pathology tests, nuclear medicine, CT scans, and MRI are significantly higher than what one would expect from a hospital claiming to be reasonably priced. 3. Management practices; The management functions no differently from other profit-driven private hospitals. Transparency and patient-friendly practices are lacking. 4. Billing and TPA desk issues; At the discharge stage—when patients and attendants are already exhausted—billing manipulation becomes easier. Staff at the TPA/billing desk are extremely persuasive and may emotionally manipulate patients when questioned about discrepancies. If you do not carefully scrutinize the bill, overcharging is likely. Unfortunately, this practice is common across many private hospitals. 5. Emergency admissions: In emergency cases, the default response is admission, regardless of the actual medical necessity. Patients are often kept admitted longer than required, leading to unnecessary expenses. 6. Pharmacy pricing: The in-house pharmacy offers minimal discounts (around 5%), which is disappointing when even small local pharmacies commonly provide 10–15% or more. 7. Doctors: Doctors, as expected, are generally polite, professional, and helpful. This is one area where there is no complaint. Overall suggestion: This hospital may be considered only as a secondary option for doctor consultations only if it is necessary absolutely. I would strongly advise against hospitalization, diagnostic tests, or purchasing medicines here. There is a reason why many patients from Bengal prefer Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. While the process there may take time, financial exploitation is not a concern there. My advice: proceed with caution and avoid hospitals like Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre and Research Institute for inpatient care. Peace.
As a doctor myself, I am aware of the challenges involved in treating advanced malignancies. When my own mother was diagnosed with Locally Advanced Gallbladder Cancer (Stage III), the anxiety was overwhelming. However, our experience at Saroj Gupta Cancer Centre and Research Institute (SGCCRI), Thakurpukur, has been nothing short of exemplary. I want to express my deepest gratitude to two exceptional consultants who spearheaded her treatment: Dr. Mainak Chakraborty (Surgical Oncologist): Dr. Mainak is not just a skilled surgeon but a true pillar of support. He performed a complex Radical Extended Cholecystectomy with precision, achieving an R0 resection (complete removal of the tumor), which is the gold standard for a cure. His confidence and transparency gave us hope when we needed it most. Dr. Nihanthy D S (Medical Oncologist): Dr. Nihanthy managed the critical pre-operative Chemotherapy and Immunotherapy phase with great expertise. Her judicious selection of the right drug regimen (including Immunotherapy) was instrumental in downstaging the tumor, making the surgery possible in the first place. What sets SGCCRI apart is its ethical backbone. In an era of corporate healthcare, this institution treats patients with dignity and compassion, not as "files." The coordination between the surgical and medical teams was seamless. To anyone in West Bengal considering travelling to other cities for cancer treatment: Please know that superior, ethical, and world-class care is available right here in Kolkata at SGCCRI. Thank you to the entire team for giving my mother a second chance at life.
